This week’s ECN local project spotlight features the Episcopal Diocese of California and its eco-justice conference!
Last year, the Episcopal Church approved 44 Stewardship of Creation grants for local projects, including many great ideas that your parish or diocese could do too. Every Thursday, to help highlight the exciting work happening across God’s church and provide examples of what your own parish or diocese might do, we highlight one of the grant winners here.
According to a church press release, the Episcopal Diocese of California received $3,500 to “help fund a conference on “Eco-justice: Safeguarding Climate, Food and Water” to engage the diocese and larger community in the intersection of these issues. [The grant] will provide support for honorarium and logistics for the conference.” Congratulations and thank you, Diocese of California!
The conference was held in May 2017 at Grace Cathedral. It featured a powerful sermon from Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, which Episcopal Climate News has quoted in several different memes. Read the text of his sermon (and find a link to the video) here: http://diocal.org/news/ecojustice-sermon

Could your parish or diocese host a similar conference, or team up with other churches or local organizations and schools to do so?
